I think it may be because you do it and you do it because it needs to be done. Some people just do whatever needs to be done; some people don't, and get others to do it -- whether carrying packages from a car, lifting boxes, filling the ice chest, or whatever. I remember my first job in sports marketing. It was still a "man's world." A woman who was a sales position (this was for World Championship Tennis) gave me what turned out to be an important piece of advice: never let anyone know you know how to type (this was before personal computers). If others in the office know you can type she said -- particularly the men -- you would be reduced to a secretarial position, regardless of what it said on your job description (I was a tournament coordinator).
