But you see, computers are still a mystery! They are the only machines I
know that may or may not work even when eveything is hooked up properly.
When you buy a toaster, it will always toast unless it is broken. Not so
with a computer. Sometimes you just have to turn it off, and then turn it
back on. no other machine that I know of does this--only the ones with
silicon chips. That is what frustrateso many people--it might not be that
they are afraid, or won't learn. It's that they can't figure out why the
same solutin doesn't always work to solve the seemingly same problem. I
troubleshoot my Mom's computer over the phone all the time. 90% of the time
we turn it off and then turn it back on. Sometimes I swear one of us tech
folk with the "aura" will simply try the same thing that someone else has
already tried, but it might work for us. That's crazy. As I've often said,
for a machine that is based on logic, a computer is the most arbitrary beast
I've ever dealt with! Never have I had to use divergent thinking skills more
than working with them!
