We've been with Destiny since 2004. 29 collections, 31 district librarians, 5 CORE team members and thousands of titles!!!! Our first training was 3 years ago. Our last district training about cataloging policies was over 10 years ago. Our CORE team (the 5 district librarians who have Destiny Administrative control) met today for a cataloging policy planning session. We will deliver training to our district librarians the first part of Feb. Today's meeting was planned for 3 hours, and within 45 min we changed it to continue all day. What a snarly mess of records!! Since 2004 anyone can add a title, or even do original cataloging, but only CORE team members can edit records. This was a difficult district decision, but it keeps "junk" to a minimum. However, since 2004 we've had a 30% turn over rate, and some of our new librarians came in under emergency certification which meant they hadn't completed all classes. Today we decided step-by-step methods to add records. The policy to keep individual records to a minimum. Equipment cataloging rules for our district's purposes. And, finally we are beginning some ideas about call number standards. We walked out with many notes, assigned jobs to type and prepare our training materials, and full support of our district media-administrator to create a standard for union cataloging. I'll try to post again in 3 weeks. Robin Weber <Robin.Weber@STFRANCIS.K12.MN.US> wrote: I am sitting in training for Destiny and I am concerned about our Union Catalog. We have no policies for cataloging and each site catalogs their own records. Does anyone or District have policies for how cataloging is handled?
