Just a note: Randy Pausch, the Carnegie Mellon University professor who delivered (and then wrote the book about) "The Last Lecture" died yesterday of pancreatic cancer. If you haven't seen his presentation or read the book, they are both "must-do" projects for educators (and anyone living the "fast and furious life"). His work and life is a definite inspiration!! Here is the news article about his death: http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/reviews/critics/la-me-pausch26-2008jul26,0,5191339.story (On a side note, my 11-year old son took two computer-gaming classes this summer that incorporated the use of the ALICE software which Dr. Pausch helped to develop. Watching a 5th grader create a computer game using a software program that Dr. Pausch helped to develop made me really appreciate his life work. It also reminded me just how many lives WE often touch without even realizing. Because of this computer program, my son is now interested in computer programming.)
