LM_NET Archive



The University of Rhode Island has two great online courses that focus on
using the Internet in instruction and also using blogs and wikis in
education.(details below)  Please forward this information to anyone that
may be interested.


EDC 920: Workshop for Teachers  (3 grad credits)
TOPIC: Using the INTERNET FOR TEACHING,  LEARNING, & PRACTICAL APPLICATION
Registration Deadline: May 16, 2008
Participants will learn how to find relevant information among the abundance
of raw data found online, evaluate its worth and credibility, and
effectively use it to solve an issue or problem. This is an on line,
asynchronous course with no classroom meetings.Students will interact
completely through a blog, as well as learn what a blog is, how to use one,
and how to access educational blogs from teachers around the world.
Appropriate for grades K-12
Course costs: $500.00*   (*For those who have never taken a course at URI
before there is a one time transcript fee of $35.00 in addition to the
course costs)
Class meets completely on line.This is an asynchronous classes. There is no
designated time that you have to be on line.  Each week's lesson is posted
on line and participants have 7 days to complete and post their assignments.

TOPIC: USING BLOGS AND WIKIS TO FOSTER LITERACY (3 grad credits)

This course focuses on the pragmatism of using Web 2.0 tools in education.
Participants will learn how to use the Read/Write Web to foster literacy in
and out of school, to deepen learning and increase student achievement, to
create opportunities to bring these technologies to the larger school
community, and to identify assessment tools to measure the effectiveness of
Read/Write Web technologies in their personal practice and with their
students. Appropriate for grades K-12
