I have started AR in two schools: one jr. high and one elementary. In both
cases, I put a dot on the book to indicate it was AR but did not put
anything on the outside of the book to indicate what level it was. I did put
a label on the inside that showed the reading level and point value. I had a
number of teachers in both schools thank me for taking the stand to keep
reading levels confidential. Kids who struggle with reading already have
hurdles to overcome without an added social pressure to have a certain color
of dot. Unfortunately, I do not have anything other than anecdotal and
common sense evidence to back me up!

Hope this helps,
Cyndi
