Granted we shouldn't make assumptions, but in my almost 30 years of dealing
with children in schools...I know that whether it is a "low" book designated
by a specific colored dot, or "The Lower Reader Series", or the "Lower
Reading Group" (even if you use different names such as the Tigers, the
cheetahs, the llamas..whatever)..it doesn't take students long to figure out
who is faster, better, than others. Why make it hard on the student who is
struggling? Why not just designate in a general way those titles that have
tests. If you need to know what the level is, have that in a non-searchable
part of the record that you can only access by a report and that only goes
to the teacher involved. Then once a month you can do that report and give
it to the teacher for their information.
