Shonda,

My Language Arts department and I heartily agree with you. Our problem is
that while the major universities here in Georgia require use of APA style,
the Georgia high school graduation test only covers MLA style. The teachers
would LIKE to teach APA to conform with future expectations but feel their
hands are tied by the standardized testing requirements.

Some of the science teachers do expect APA citation, but they have a
difficult time with the assignment.

I recall as an undergraduate being requried to use the Chicago Manual of
Style for History courses, MLA for language arts, and somewhere..Turabian
came in there. I have to admit to having a difficulties with APA citation
myself.
