Our fifth grade did City of Ember last year and the kids enjoyed it tremendously.
The teachers found a lot of information online in regards to lessons and
activities. Novel Units also offers a unit of the book. The teachers also did
Bridge to Terabithia and the kids did not like it near as much. In fact, there was
a lot of grumbling and groaning. This could be due to the fact that many of our
students struggle with reading and English.

I am doing a fifth grade boy's reading group and we are currently reading The
Forgotten Door (sci-fi) with Maximum Ride, Among the Hidden, The Lightning Thief
and The White Mountains in our future. The girl's are reading Heartbeat, wiith
Esperanza Rising and Ella Enchanted in their future. So far they are very receptive
to the books although we've only just started. It should be noted that these 30
kids are our top readers.

Reading is not a duty, and has consequently no business to be made disagreeable.
