Here, Here! Mary Beth Roche, MIS Library Director Allied Medical & Technical Institute 517 Ash Street Scranton, PA 18509 570-558-1818 Ext. 1927 Fax 570-342-4537 MRoche@edaff.com The approach of Christmas brings harassment and dread to many excellent people. They have to buy a cart-load of presents, and they never know what to buy to hit the various tastes; they put in three weeks of hard and anxious work, and when Christmas morning comes they are so dissatisfied with the result, and so disappointed that they want to sit down and cry. Then they give thanks that Christmas comes but once a year. -Mark Twain -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of Harry Coffill Sent: Thursday, December 17, 2009 8:28 AM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: Re: Response note to parent re book choice Terri- Are you sure you want to get in this fight? I would certainly agree to not check out ANY books to her student if that is the parents wish. It is not your job to screen material for individual students, merely to follow your district selection policy. I would attempt to have that conversation in front of the student, as well, so she understands the reason she may not check out materials. Harry Harry F. She has made the suggestion that this is due to poor monitoring of the students in library. Of course, this is totally not the case, simply a different view of what my job is and what her job as a parent entails. Does anyone have anything already written up as I know this has happened to many of us many times.
