Hi, I would not use Wikapedia for anything that I had to 100% sure of the
facts. Recently, I returned to college and our Professor made the point of
saying if we use Wikapedia for our Research paper that we would fail the
class since anyone off the street could edit and contribute to the database.
Yes, it is great if you have a general idea of the correct answer but need
to double check it. However, I did look up a definition and it was not
anywhere near correct with its meaning.
I think one of the things that as a librarian we need to be teaching is how
to distinguish between acurate and inacurate materials and databases and I
use this site for this purpose with my students but I don't allow it for
formal research.

Subject: Why NOT Wikapedia

Looking for some brief hard cold facts as to why wikapedia is should not be
a "citeable" source for research. Presenting to faculty today and there are

some big advocates of it who will claim it is just as reliable as Worldbook.
