Speakers and workshops of interest to school librarians! I have attended NCCE 
conference for the last 10 years, and they have always had excellent workshops for 
techno-librarians. Portland, OR is a great venue for a conference, as well. Great 
speakers (list below)  lined up for librarians. I hope to meet you there!

LIBRARY of CONGRESS PRESENTS TWO LIBRARY WORKSHOPS
AT 38th ANNUAL NCCE CONFERENCE     www.ncce.org 
IN PORTLAND ON FEBRUARY 17-18, 2009

Northwest Council for Computer Education, NCCE, announced that Educational Outreach 
Specialists from the Library of Congress will be presenting two library media 
workshops, Traveling through History with Online Maps and Books as Hooks to Online 
Primary Sources, at the 38th annual largest educational technology conference in 
the Northwest held on February 17-20 in Portland, Oregon at the Oregon Convention 
Center.

The Traveling through History with Online Maps workshop will explore historic maps 
available online that will take students on a virtual adventure through history.  
The workshop will include hands-on map analysis activities to enhance reading, 
social studies, geography, language arts, technology or art classes.  Various 
resources and tips and strategies for student lessons will also be revealed.  
Register for this afternoon workshop on February 17, from 1 – 4 pm held at the 
Oregon Convention Center online at ncce.org.  (Fee is $95)

The Books as Hooks to Online Primary Sources workshop will reel students into 
learning history by combining literature and primary sources.  This interactive 
workshop will model the “book backdrop technique” and “book talks” with 
cross-curricular connections to the Library of Congress primary source materials.  
It will also provide hand-on opportunities to practice primary source investigation 
strategies to encourage critical thinking skills. Register for this evening 
workshop on February 18, workshop from 5-8 pm held at the Oregon Convention Center 
online at ncce.org. (Fee is $95)

NCCE 2009:  Navigating the new World with Technology will focus on the impact of 
technology issues emerging for leaders in the classroom and school districts.  The 
event is sponsored by members of the Northwest Council for Computer Education 
organization with state representation from Oregon, Washington, Montana and Idaho.
