This week we are participating in RIF's 2 Week Reading Challenge in which teachers and parents pledge that each child will be read to twice daily- once in the classroom and once at home. (I HOPE they are read to more than twice.....but that is beside the point...) Here is the problem- The parent of a child in special ed wrote a note to the teacher saying that she will allow the child to read to her but she can see no reason to read to her child. (I'm not kidding.) She wants to know how we possibly think reading to her child will help her. ( I did not make this up.) I need some quick research based facts. I mean, I KNOW the answer but I can not back it up with research right off the top of my head. Dos anyone have an article or some facys handy that we can send home today?
