[LM_NET] GEN MIDDLE Book suggestions for Civil War time period

Hi all,
Our 8th grade comm arts teachers are looking for suggestions for a high level or 
challenge book that is historical fiction from the Civil War time period.  They 
would like ideas with both male and female characters.  A lot of their books with 
male characters seem to be easier books to read.  They already do have a collection 
of some titles but they are looking for something new, maybe published more 
recently.
