Hi, I am in a bind. I am the teen librarian in a public library. The high school is right next door. I have a teacher coming in with his students for three days next week. All low level learners. He wants to arrive at noon and leave at 2:30. That is two and a half hours I need to fill. He wants them to get library cards. I told him that they will need a parent there to show proof of identity and address to get a card. Also, many kids already have cards that are blocked due to fines, so this could be potentially embarrassing for the kids. He has no lesson plan, he has only expressed his desire for them to get cards and to learn about books. I have a 25 minute powerpoint on the history of the library and expected behavior in the library I can do. I have a booktalking game that lasts about 20 minutes. I can do a tour (another 20 minutes used up). What the heck else can I do with these kids? We have public computers, I could do a database instruction. But I don't have enough computers for 30 kids. I can maybe commandeer six without adversely effecting the regular patrons. This is going to be a logistical nightmare. I am envisioning these kids running rampant, bored, making noise, and the fallout, when it happens, is going to fall on my head.
