Journal of Media Literacy Education
Volume 1, Issue 1

The Journal of Media Literacy Education is an online, peer-reviewed
interdisciplinary journal that supports the development of research,
scholarship and the pedagogy of media literacy education. The journal
provides a forum for established and emerging scholars, media
professionals and educational practitioners in and out of schools. As an
extended conceptualization of literacy, media literacy education helps
individuals of all ages develop habits of inquiry and skills of expression
needed to become critical thinkers, effective communications and active
citizens in a world where mass media, popular culture and digital
technologies play an important role for individuals and society.

In the Inaugural issue entitled, “Media Literacy Education: Past, Present
and Future,” we seek papers that explore media literacy’s
multidisciplinary roots; critical analyses of the philosophical and
theoretical foundations of the field; examinations of contemporary
instructional practices both in and out of schools; qualitative and
quantitative research addressing media literacy education’s
implementation, impact and effects; critical perspectives on the
opportunities and challenges faced by media literacy educators today and
in the future; and new directions for the field. Interested parties can
access more information about the journal at

and Amy Petersen Jensen at editor@jmle.org
