There is indeed no law saying such. Anyone can read Scripture (Koran, Book of
Mormon, Bible, Science and Health, etc) on their own time in a school.

I wish I had been present when this happened to the students - I would have had a
lot to say on this issue - and it is pet peeve with me when any supposed educator
acts so stupidly. I am so grateful that I am no longer in the public system (after
33 years) and am now in a private school.

Makes me wonder what the adults are so fearful of when they saw the students
reading the Bible. Says more about the faculty of the school than it does the
students... Very sad situation.

Subject: Re: [LM_NET] Reading the Bible on public school campus

To my knowledge there is no law that says a student cannot read something in public
school as long as it is not pornographic or inappropriate. If I were one of the
students who were told that they couldn't read the Bible, I would be asking the
staff member who told me this to show me the law. Hey, if there were such a law,
wouldn't this be among the instructions as public school teachers that we receive
at the beginning of each year? If there were such a law, wouldn't it be "in our
faces" a lot more? If I am wrong about this, I sincerely want/need to be educated
about this--please let me know--I won't be offended.
