[LM_NET] Thirteen Reasons Why

HI,

 

You are all a great group of people.  Thank you to everyone who
responded to my delimma concerning Thirteen Reasons Why.  Everyone who
responded say the book is a great one.   The majority of you feel that
it is inappropriate for 6th graders and some 7th graders.   I bought it
because of all of the fantastic reviews it received.  Unfortunately, I
didn't have time to read the entire book before I put it out.  I am now
reading the book.  I have decided in have an in-house review of the book
before I return it to circulation.  I have two teachers in my building
who have MS aged children who are reading the book for me.  I have
another teacher who is really hip and in-tune with what our students are
reading, watching, and listening to, and she reads many of the book with
questionable content for me.  I also asked a couple of former students
who are in HS (and who read everything) to read it for me.  Once
everyone finishes, we will meet and make a decision about the book.
This is the first time in 30 years as a librarian that I have had an
issue like this.
