Here's my original question:

Hi, folks.
A parent has asked me for books to help a healthy child who has
suddenly begun having nightmares about becoming very ill and dying. We
have plenty of books which address grief / handling the death of a
loved one, but I haven't come across anything to help this child.  Can
anyone suggest a title?

Responses:
Patricia Sarles kindly sent the link to a list of books on death &
dying that she had compiled on her blog:
http://childrenspicturebooks.blogspot.com/search/label/death

My school counselor suggested The Fall of Freddie the Leaf (which also
appears on Patricia's list), a book which shows that death is part of
a natural cycle. I've ordered that book from interlibrary loan as the
closest to what the parent requested. There doesn't seem to be a
book out there about a child who needs to be reassured that what he is
worrying about is not likely, and in any case, beyond his control.
(Authors, take note!)

I'm also going to suggest to the parent that she look at Wemberly
Worried, Scaredy Squirrel, and a few other books that take a
lighthearted approach to dealing with fears.
