Several years ago I *was *in a portable while the library was renovated. I only had the essentials such as favorite books and everything else was in storage or in the classrooms. The weight of the books was too much for whatever was holding up the portable, and it collapsed on one side. Books are extremely heavy so if you do this, make sure the district engineer accounts for this weight and adjusts the floor supports. I have moved several times--it must be my karma. Here are my top three moving tips: 1. Get lots of adult volunteers. 2. Use bankers boxes and mark the call# number on the outside. 3. Plan where everything will go before you start to move. Go from the old shelf to the new shelf. I never had the luxury of using rolling carts to move, but if your do, use the volunteers to go old shelf to new shelf with the carts. Sharon M.
