I had great success with a couple of teachers who agreed to REQUIRE students to
turn in their sources (books & database articles) with their assignments who would
then return the books once the assignment was graded.  Teacher motivation is the
key to this method.  I pointed out that plagarism would be much easier to check...
they would not have to waste time finding the sources, if they were questioning
sources or plagarism or even scholarliness of sources.  It worked really well with
teachers who were willing to cooperate.  Not all teachers wanted to go to the
trouble... but I found that usually teachers who were assigning the lengthy
research papers found this was a great help to them in the long run.  I also
offered to come get the books when they were done checking the papers.  (I usually
sent a reliable student aide.)

I have been asked to come up with a guideline for teachers that will
help us get more books back at the end of the year.  Does anyone have
suggestions or a finished checklist that I could use?

My ideas currently are:
Adding book return as a grade

Offering extra credit for books turned up to a certain date

How can teachers and other staff members help us get more books back and
what should their end of the year procedures be????

Thank you in advance,
