Good morning, I am looking for picture book biographies that portray violence or hardship endured by the subject of the biography. The violence could be kidnapping, beating, hiding-to-avoid violence. I don't mean accidents, I mean violent acts inflicted on the subject (or witnessed by the subject) by someone else. The hardship could be losing parents, siblings, living in poverty or in the midst of war. I do not want stories (the one about the boy and his father living in an airport comes to mind). I want BIOGRAPHIES in PICTURE BOOK format. Please reply off-list to me at debreese@illinois.edu, and I apologize for the cross-postings. Thanks in advance!
