[LM_NET] OT: airline tickets/school trip/refund

Hi All,

 

I'm asking the group for ideas on this one.  Our International
Baccalaureate students were scheduled to go to Mexico at the end of this
month; and as a result of H1N1, the trip was cancelled.  The only thing
that the major airline is willing to offer on the tickets is
re-ticketing without a fee.  At this point, rescheduling the trip might
not be an option.  What we really need is a refund, and so far we've not
had any success in trying to convey the message that we're a school
group and not nearly as flexible as the individual consumer, etc.  We're
also having some amount of difficulty in communicating with someone past
the frontline via telephone or letter.  Has anyone had any experience
with this sort of situation?  If so, I'd be interested in hearing from
you.  Should I do some research in talking to someone (maybe someone
with more clout - the president of the company, etc.) at this airline?
Maybe someone has advice on this? Maybe I'm more of an idealist than a
realist in this situation, but I think offering us a refund in this
situation would be the right thing to do; but, of course, I'm not
working in the world of business either.
