[LM_NET] VENT: Babysitting

Dear Great and Wise Ones and Patient Listeners:

I have been telling the teachers today that I will retire and the school can
hire a monkey to do my job.

So far today I have babysat teacher assistants, part-time attendance
students, students sent from classes who are intent on playing computer
games, students whose teacher is consistently late first period, and my
favorite, the student who is supposed to be earning credit via the state
internet school, but plays games or sleeps instead.
I have gone through my e-mail. Printed some Thanksgiving bookmarks.
Processed the magazines.
Delivered papers to teachers--internet sites. Relabeled AR books. Answered
the phone.

Whatever happened to helping students find books that would *like to read*not
*assigned* reading or research?
Whatever happened to students who come to the library to sit and read?
Whatever happened to students who like to play chess--on a board?
Whatever happened to students who are quiet and studious--do their
homework--on their own?

Before you say it, I know I am burnt out--this is my 28th year.

Just looking for sympathy.  Thanks for listening.
