[LM_NET] IB Extended Essay and MLA

Any librarians out there working with IB Extended Essay students, be advised
that the IB office recently stated the following:

"Academic honesty
        Section 4.11 of the IB publication Academic Honesty (July, 2009)
suggests that one convention that candidates may adopt for attributing
sources in their work for assessment is provided by the Modern Language
Association (MLA), which produces the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research
Papers, by Joseph Gibaldi, now in its seventh edition (2009). However, the
MLA no longer requires the use of URLs (a Web site address) in MLA
citations. Because Web addresses often change and because documents
sometimes appear in multiple places on the World Wide Web, MLA explains that
most readers can find electronic sources via title or author searches in
internet search engines. However, for the purpose of candidates’ work being
submitted for assessment, either by a teacher or an IB examiner, it is
essential that candidates include the URL (the Web address) for a source
found on the World Wide Web and the date that source was accessed."

Guess that means no 7th edition rules for urls.
