I think?I would rather ask you the questions Why do we need to hear this? What good will come from it?? In what way will the students be helped? ?From what i've seen about the speech?the President is?covering territory we as professional teachers cover every day in class.?Goal setting, the importance of education, etc...?It's not an historic event. It's not something new. It takes away from the school day. How will he be able to communicate his ideas?to such a diverse range of?students grades K-12 anyway? I have been doing library orientation this week with K-4 and I have to change things for each grade level! ?I read the "menu of classroom activities" supplied by the DOE that goes along with the speech and?I personally found it a bit demeaning that they felt the need to tell us how to teach.?There are enough "education experts."? ?I think it's?not so much the message, but the method of delivery chosen.?As far as censorship, I haven't heard of a district yet that will not ma! ke the speech available in some way at some time, just not at the time of the live broadcast.? ? In what way will students be harmed? How can we support this sort of censorship in any way? I must be missing something very obvious here. Thanks for your help - and yes, I'm sincerely trying to grasp this!!
