***** Lynchburg City Schools ***** 915 Court Street - Lynchburg, VA 24505 ***** Mail Administrator - mail@lcsedu.net ________________________________ Thanks to everyone who sent ideas and examples! ORIGINAL REQUEST: I'm preparing a presentation on Animoto and Glogster for my district's professional development day. I will be presenting to teachers from all grade levels and was hoping some of you would be willing to share examples of how you and your teachers are using these tools in your schools. I have searched the archives but was hoping to come up with some more examples to share. _____ RESPONSES: I'm using glogster for my library webpage- not as much with kids yet- http://teacherweb.hayscisd.net/web/perkinss/bveslib.html _____ Here is a link to a teacher resources page that I have on my website. I have a Glogster that I created that is a collection of education related Web 2.0 tools. Although it is not student work, it would show them what it looks like and then could be a tool for them to investigate other Web 2.0 tools. I made it for teacher in-service this past fall. Feel free to share. http://www.palisadessd.org/60634271313721/blank/browse.asp?a=383&BMDRN=2 000&BCOB=0&c=51940 _____ Battle of the Books 2010 - This is the animoto movie I made to promote our annual Battle of the Books. http://animoto.com/play/RAw1y81ptBJtktmdAy1e1w?utm_content=main_link&utm_source=share&utm_campaign=animoto&utm_medium=email _____ We use Glogster in student portfolio work and as a web page to highlight announcements and videos. http://mckilloplibrary.edu.glogster.com/uss-mckillop-announcements/ http://mckilloplibrary.edu.glogster.com/uss-mckillop-book-reviews-5/ http://mckilloplibrary.edu.glogster.com/uss-mckillop-fun/ http://mckilloplibrary.edu.glogster.com/mckillop-home/ http://mckilloplibrary.edu.glogster.com/mckillop-book-reviews1/ _____ The RHS Amazing Reading Race 2010 - This is an animoto video I did to show who is racing in our Amazing Reading Race. http://animoto.com/play/tzVJHcH7nbGNaN1JAImRkQ?utm_content=main_link&utm_campaign=animoto&utm_source=share&utm_medium=email _____ My PreAP teacher does a year long poetry project. For one six weeks she has them choose a poem by their poet. They type the poem into Animoto and then chose images that represent the themes, ideas, etc. that the poet is trying to convey. Some of the kids also take their own pictures and use those. After they play their Animoto videos, the students then explain the poem and why they chose the images that they used. _____ I haven't had any luck with Glogster, but Animoto is a hit here with students from 7th-12th grades. For English classes, students have created Animoto movies for book reports...for social studies, they've used it for current events reports...I even have teachers using Animoto to share information with students! _____ Animoto: http://animoto.com/play/XwYEiQptwzkyahgHnr84AQ?utm_campaign=share_email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_email http://animoto.com/play/ns8cVbhiW3byimjDT4yNfw?utm_campaign=share_email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_email http://animoto.com/play/WqTQtooQ5RUuxaq15ATGAA?utm_campaign=share_email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_email http://animoto.com/play/0FB6vZXgqfJuUorj6J55Wg?utm_campaign=share_email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_email _____ https://sites.google.com/a/nscds.org/books/ is a link to book trailers my 5th graders made. Personal favorites are Charlotte's Web, & HIVE though there are other good ones on there as well. Additionally here is a video made by the second grade class of pictures students took on a field trip to Chicago's Shedd Aquarium: http://animoto.com/play/L0S0xnMVgTm2lT80nWsE0Q _____ http://bookmom.edu.glogster.com/whslmc/ Try the above link for an example of an animoto embedded within a glogster. _____ You're welcome to show some examples of Glogs from my school: http://8redpresidentglogs.wikispaces.com/ _____ Here are three that I created for our library website. 1. Mr. Schu Loves to Read: http://animoto.com/play/a64ry6fGvZXuPAAidTRtNg?autostart=true _____ Have you seen this? Don't reinvent the wheel! http://www.rockingham.k12.va.us/HowTo/animoto/animoto.htm also, I've done some animoto book trailers for our Destiny OPAC, but it's on the intranet. If you want me to send you a link I can. _____ I hope this helps It is beautiful in Kansas http://animoto.com/play/xN4dRTiS5nq6mn3XQ7sbpw?autostart=true Teen Read Week http://animoto.com/play/WFbhA63orbMBnc8e3N52eg?autostart=true Our Principal who left last year for a new job http://animoto.com/play/4g5AHjtX12KEmmGxvto2lg?autostart=true _____ I'm working with a language arts teacher who is having students create book trailers using Animoto. Last fall a Spanish teacher had some students using Animoto to make public service announcement. And we had a socialogy teacher use Glogster as a means for students to create personal glogs that represent them. _____ Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but here goes! Below are some examples of how I use Glogster in our high school library. I do booktalks with the local public librarian 3 times a year (English classes come in every hour to listen). I used to print off booklists, but have switched to Glogster to highlight the books (which are linked to our catalog) and resources we feature. The first is with my educational account, the second with a regular account (signed into the wrong one before I noticed that time). They are probably not the best examples out there, but just some things I have experimented with. http://sgietzel.edu.glogster.com/Fall-Booktalks-2009/ http://gietzel.glogster.com/winter-booktalks-2010/ I am not aware of any teachers in my building currently using either of the programs yet, but I will be doing book trailers again later this year and we are looking at Animoto...just waiting on an educator account. _____ This is an example of one I made for our Book Fair. I also made one for our Reading is Fundamental program at our school. Enjoy! I'd love to see some of your examples and how you utilized animoto in your media center. Thanks! http://animoto.com/play/5cFfUbUGd5P21wcfdJmSHw?utm_source=project_complete_email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=project_complete_email&utm_content=challenger _____ I recently posted a note to LM_NET about book trailers that my students created with Animoto. You can see them at: http://ewsbookblog.edublogs.org/ _____ Thanks again for the responses, Sarah Mabery Library Media Specialist E. C.
