Great suggestions! And it's a good time for a book fair. If you have any teacher colleges in the area, I've discovered that student teachers love to come help at events. I had some working with pipe cleaners and students to make pipe cleaner animals (anything Seuss works and there are some good websites with instructions). They also helped pretty much wherever I needed them. I discovered this by having one student teacher in the building when I was planning a reading night. She asked if she could bring friends and about ten showed up. It was marvelous.
