Corlears School is an Independent Progressive school for students ages 2.6 -10. The
faculty and administration value an inquiry-based approach to instruction,
responsiveness to student exploration, and the role of teacher as a guide to
student learning. The Library Media Specialist at Corlears is responsible for all
aspects of building and maintaining the collection, collaborating with classroom
teachers in support of curriculum and working directly with students.
The successful Teacher candidate at Corlears will:
Value the schools mission to support students who are economically, racially and
ethnically diverse, as well as those coming from diverse family structures
Have a thorough grounding in progressive / constructivist practices and principles
Have experience working with a variety of learners in a school setting
Have strong written and interpersonal communication skills
Have a sense of humor and a drive to collaborate with colleagues
Specific Qualifications for the Library Media Specialist teacher:
M.L.S from an accredited institution
At least 3 years experience working with a variety of young learners in a school
setting
Familiarity with Follett cataloguing program a plus
Desire to generate excitement among students about books and clear sense of purpose
in introducing various genres at appropriate levels
Facility with technology to enhance student learning
Ability to teach and integrate skills such as: Internet research, word processing
and digital multi-media presentation
