Here's my best excuses from spatially challenged students: 3rd grade student: I left my book at my grandma's and we didn't have time to get it this weekend. Me: Where does your grandmother live? 3rd grade student: Two feet away. Yet another 3rd grade student: My book is on a high shelf on my bookcase and I can't reach it. Me: Can't an adult get it down for you? Yet another 3rd grade student: No, they can't reach it either. Me: Do you have any chairs you can stand on to reach it? Yet another 3rd grade student: No, we don't have any chairs. -- Mary Jane Rudakewich Elementary librarian Tyrone Area Elementary School Tyrone, Pa mjrudakewich@tyrone.k12.pa.us -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of dayna mellberg Sent: Monday, May 31, 2010 2:33 PM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: Re: More reasons for overdues This made me laugh at a crazy time of year: I had a student being back a dripping , sopping wet book and hand it in to his first grade teacher. She was kind enough to put it in a Ziploc bag before she gave it to me. He insisted he had "gotten" it that way! I sent home a note about the book's condition, and his parents came in to pay the fine. His father sheepishly told me, "I think I know what happened". "He likes to sit on the potty and read while his younger brothers are taking a bath, I think it fell in the tub." We all couldn't help but laugh. At least he's reading! I thanked the parent for paying the fine. It sure made a a funny picture in my mind all day.
