Lisa, I LOVE MY JOB!!! I love seeing the joy in a kid as they hug a book and saunter out the door to read one or a huge stack of books! Or when they make an accomplishment due so something they read or wrote due to what happens in the library or an assignment given in the library. I great my kids with "Good Morning Readers" and end my speeches, however long or short, with "Happy Reading!" Enjoy your summer, Colette Colette D. Eason, Librarian Marsalis ES 5640 S. Marsalis Ave. Dallas, TX 75241 Box 317, TEA #183 Dallas ISD ceason@dallasisd.org 972-749-3508 FAX 972-749-3501 http://library.dallasisd.org ( http://library.dallasisd.org/ ) TALL Texan Class of 2007 You see, I don't believe libraries should be drab places where people sit in silence, and that's been the main reason for our policy of employing wild animals as librarians. ~~Monty Python http://www.bartleby.com/65/se/Seuss-Dr.html "Be who you are and say what you feel 'cause people who mind don't matter, and people who matter don't mind." Theodor Seuss Geisel "What I like best is a book that's at least funny once in a while.... What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though." - J. D. However, there is that underlying negative tone in the discussion. I'm putting my focus on the positive, and I'm sure many of you do that, too. These are some tough economic times, even in the BEST of time work in the school library isn't always easy. Personally, I've dealt with some real blows in my own position. I used to absolutely love my job, but over the past 5 years coming to work has sometimes made me physically ill. I've done so much soul searching to determine why I'm still in this gig. I do love my work. I enjoy my work as a librarian. When I'm with students or helping teachers to create and deliver meaningful instruction I feel joy and happiness with my work. Things that break my heart or make me ill at work have to do with the politics of education. How many of us are happy with our work? Are we only a "happy few?" I love what I do and that is why I do it. Who else loves this work and why do you love it?
