My supervisor received a letter from a parent about the use of Perks of Being a
Wallflower in an English class. The teacher sent a permission slip home,
prompting the parents to read the book before they signed. The letter states
that they couldn't get through page 31. They say that they don't want the book
taught in the English class, and they want it removed from the media center.
(Note on media center here: we are a county technical high school serving 19
different districts; we have only 11th and 12th grade in the building). My
questions are: Do you have any teachers in your schools that use this book
(required or independent reading?) and do you have this book in your library? What
challenges/problems have you had with this title?
Please email me off list.
Thank you.
