Like most of you, I've been sending home plenty of late book reminders and some bills as well. Today I started calling parents myself (usually I have the kids go to the office and call). One boy whose book was due back in March told me last week he knew where it was but he hadn't brought it. I challenged him and said "If it's lost or damaged, just be honest with me." He assured me it wasn't lost or damaged. So I asked him if he knew where it was why he hadn't brought it, and he just kind of shrugged. Today I called his mom. Mom was apologetic - said they know just where the book was, but just hadn't made the time to retrieve it - turns out it is behind his bed next to the wall, but apparently they are going to have to disassemble the bed frame in order to get to it! Maybe I should have offered her my long-handled tongs . . . Joanne Ladewig (A.K.A.
