After suffering through a broken water pipe in the ceiling of the high school library, I can speak to this first hand. The library salvage company I spoke to advised us that if this should ever happen again (!) to IMMEDIATELY take any wet books to a large freezer. They should be reshaped as much as possible and put in unwrapped. Ever hear of "freeze drying"? The salvage company reported that books not totally soaked may be saved in this manner. Of course, they would love to come in and suck all the water out of your books, but I've saved some rain-soaked picture books this way, too.
