I have a student book discussion group and we spent some time on whether
or not I should spend book alocation money on buyin the Goosebump series.
The kids decided that it would be better for them to donate the books to
the library and save my funds for other materials.  I read the books or
check if others in our system have approved them.  They aren't my choice
of good literature, but they are responsible for getting some kids turned
onto reading.  I also had some kids design posters using KidPix
portraying a scary theme.  I then listed on the opposite side of the
poster some authors I'd rather have students reading for their
thrills....like Mary Downing Hahn, Betty Wren Wright ect. These laminated
posters are hanging in the Fict. section for browsing.
