M ark,
Basically, the difference between Dewey and LC is that Dewey is strictly
numerical and is limited by the proposition that all of knowledge can be
divided into 10 subject categories. LC is an alpha/numeric system with the
possibility of more categories. Usually, Dewey is only used by libraries
who do not plan to have more than 50,000 volumes in their collection.
Libraries designed to have more than 50,000 volumes usually more up to LC
classification because it gives them more options that Dewey does.
