When I first signed on to LM_NET I requested Spanish speaking penpals for
the students in my school.  I was very impressed when only 12 hours later
we had received four responses.  This proved the power of the Internet to
me and to my administration.  It felt safe to communicate with a fellow
LM_NET member's students.  I personally feel that it is not a problem, in
fact it is perfectly acceptable, to request penpals here.  Penny
