Hello, I'm an elem. library media specialist and read an article in NEA TODAY called "Finding Grizzly Details" (Oct. 1996) that continues to 'bother' me. In this article a high school government teacher talks about research via the Internet and how her students "see that there are alternatives to the library when it comes to research". And: ....how "working with computers isn't as foreboding as researching the stacks, having hundreds of books staring you in the face"---leaves more time, she says, for thinking about the big questions... Maybe she hasn't had the opportunity or insight into how so many library media centers are truly information centers where the Internet is THERE, is a part of research WHEN appropriate. I think we should all write to this teacher and let her know that there are LMCs that are the focal point in their schools' education, being the information center. What do you think? Her name is : Gail Bray her email is listed in this article as: WHKK97B@prodigy.com Let me know if you can respond to her; I'll post a hit of the number of library media specialists who have contacted her. I think the more PR we can do the better. Thanks, Rita McKillip Milwaukee MCKILLRJ@mail.milwaukee.k12.wi.us
