When I worked at the elementary level we used a modified flex schedule.
For K-2, I had scheduled weekly or biweekly visits to the media center
for classes. The biweekly sessions were in larger schools, but I'd
suggest that apporach regardless of the school size, so you'd be able
to have more flexibility scheduling your upper grades...you wouldn't be
locked out of any time period.
