It looks like Intel is trying to stay where it is (market-wise) by
ENHANCING the Pentium (586) chip yet again.  You might like to read the
article in the new PC World about the MMX machines.

An article in INFOWORLD Dec. 16, '96 states that the life cycle of the
486 and the Pentium chip BOTH have been shortened considerably by this
MMX intro.  The 486, INFOWORLD claims, is all but dead now and that the
586 and the 586Pro as they now exist will be mostly dead by the end of
'97.  Replaced 1st by the 586 MMX and then the 586Pro MMX.  The 586 MMX
is expected to "demand only a small price premium over 586 systems" says
INFOWORLD.
