Greetings (seasonal this time!) Some activities we're doing and a
request for your help.... K and one are doing Nursery rhymes and
'traditional !?!?!?' folktales for Dec. This week K will hear the
Gingerbread Boy: I cut out brown paper ones 8x10 size and got white
rick rack and lots of sequins (who needs currants!) then we'll hang
them to decorate the room. Also at the end of the month I do a Nursery
Rhyme guessing game: Have a chart and marker and do easy sketches of
clues from the rhymes and have kids guess what story it's from
(candlestick should elicit Jack be Nimble, etc). Then I turn the
tables and ask them to name a clue for the rest of us to guess. They
love it! Likewise with grade one I bring in a magic prop bag with
tons of stuff representing famous fairy tales - a doll house rocking
chair (Goldilocks) A gumdrop (Hansel and Gretel) ETC..and they love
guessing the story. Now I need some fingerplays that go with Nursery
Rhymes, are there any? A favorite Dec fingerplay I do is to the tune
of 5 little monkeys but it's 5 little snowmen (not for the squeamish)
5 little snowmen, jumping on the sled, One fell off and lost it's
head, Momma called Frosty, and Frosty said - (you know what!!!)
