Yes, same for me. Sometimes I wonder if, occasionally, we don't tend to err on the side of library fundamentalism in our zeal to make sure that kids have accurate materials. (I know--I'm now branded as a heretic!) I have read, and deeply loved, books that I later realized were very "off the mark" in one way or another, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference (except for the best) in who I finally turned out to be. We have many discussions about censorship, and sometimes I wonder if this isn't part of it, as well. I really cherish the memories of the things I read, and obviously the rest of you do, too. I'm so glad that no one was really keeping anything away from me because it wasn't totally truthful. I read Gene Stratton Porter with abandon, and on re-reading her as an adult I was shocked at how openly prejudiced she was, especially toward the Japanese. Somehow that went right over my head at the time in favor of the power of the story itself. At 11:10 PM -0500 4/3/99, Dan Robinson wrote: >Yes, I do remember the Landmark Biography series.
