I recall every night getting the Mother West Wind stories, by Burgess, read to me by my mom as I went to sleep. Wonderful short with each chapter a separate story. I'm sure, somewhere in the world, all these wonderful animal characters still are being sold, though probably a bit tattered and torn with the passage of time. Years later, when I had my own children, we re-discovered the characters as a television series, the Green Forest, so There's a Monster at the End of This Book (along with many others from CTW) replaced this bedtime custom. And, by the way, the all-time favorite still appeared annually as the Eaton's Christmas Catalog, similar to the Sears Wishbook (etc.) that was pawed through not only before Christmas, but year round as well. That was the one catalog that never made it to the hook on the outside john. But that's another story.
