I think Carolyn may be referring to the Twins books, by Perkins. I loved these as a child. They took place in different countries, so there was The Dutch Twins, The French Twins, etc. They were very old-fashioned even when I read them, and I'm sure I would be horrified now at the stereotyping. But I devoured them then. I also loved The Secret Garden, the Bobbsey Twins, the Andrew Lang color fairy books. When I became a library trainee I read many books I had never read as a child. I loved E. Nesbit, Tolkien, the wonderful books by Arthur Ransome including Swallows and Amazons, the Green Knowe books. I particularly liked - and still like - fantasy.
