>I think the hardback/paperback issue is a very real one, to the point where >I simply don't buy hardback fiction at all. This probably is a very real issue, but I have it in reverse and I don't understand why. When I came to my three libraries they had been virtually unused for ten years with no librarian and the students had little experience with libraries. Assuming (from listening to other librarians) that kids preferred paperbacks, I stocked a lot of them only to find they were the hardest sell. I really haven't got a clue as to why, but my kids seem to assume they are HARDER (the print is smaller and the pages look more "print dense." Also, I'm constantly bringing in books of my own, or books I've picked up for them at book sales, and I always rave about the way they are printed, or the illustrations by a particular artist, or what makes them special in some way, so maybe they are actually beginning to appreciate what makes a nice book. Whatever!?! They just tend to check out the hardbacks first. *)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*)*) Gayle Hodur Snail Mail: District Librarian Main Street Middle School Soledad Unified School District 441 Main Street (408) 678-3923 Soledad, CA 93960 ghodur@redshift.com Pager Screen Names: UnGayle (IM and ichat) 10682291 (ICQ) 15661301 (ICQ - this is the number for &LibraryChat, if you have ICQ w/chat) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
