Oh the memories!! My very favorite book was a tattered copy of Polly of th Hospital Staff, a heart-rending orphan book, (1912) by Emma Dowd. I found it in a wonderful used book store in Stonington, Connecticut, sometime in the early fifties, and that was the beginning of my love for used book stores. Other favorites were the Freddy the Talking Pig series by Brooks, Beau Geste and the Count of Monte Cristo (illustrated classics versions), and, finally all of the Kjelgaard dog books.
