Bob, I agree about LeGuinn. And I would add Jane Yolen. I really love her
"Pit Dragon" series. Don't forget about Bruce Coville. Although a lot of
his fantasies are in a more modern "realistic fiction" setting, they are
still fantasies, and very appealing to middle grade readers. Books like
Jennifer Murdley's Toad, and Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher are great
additions to fantasy bookshelves. I also love Robert O'Brien's "The Silver
Crown."
