I was just going to sit on the sidelines during this conversation, but I
guess I can't.

The important thing is the quality of the library program. I (and many
other independent school librarians) do not have state certification;
however, most of us have an MLS. Our programs are just as curriculum
oriented as public school library programs. We attempt to implement IP2,
work with block scheduling, teachers and administrators that don't
understand what we do... just as all school librarians do. Some of us work
with a specific group of students (elementary, middle and high schools),
many of us cover two or three divisions (PCS runs grades 4-12).

There are librarians with an MLS and state certification that do not have a
viable library program. There are paras that have programs that rival any
of the "best practice" schools. We should encourage continuing education
and a willingness to live in our crazed and hectic worlds, not get stuck on
labels
