Friends, Hello, Several peopole asked for this informaiton so perhaps it would be of interest to all.... Of 10 high schools in my area the percentages of the colelction that is fiction ranged from 7% to 24.4 %. $ of the 10 high shcools for which I have figures were above 20%, the rest below. Responses included: from Conn. - 18% From Tucson, AZ, average of many schoosl is 28%, and ranges from 16 to 50% (this last a special shcool. From Ca. - one-third From PA - one-third A great website - from Missouri http://www.dese.state.mo.us/divinstr/curriculum/standards/fiction.htm gives the number of suggested resoruces in fiction and non-fiction for different levels of schools and different populations inthe shcools. The base site has many other things on it as well. This ws a real treat from Missouri. From NJ - 10% From Wisocnsin - one-eighth From Tx - 3000 fiction plus 2100 paperbacks from a 23000 volume collection Please note than when I say from Tx, this is one person whomessage comes from soemwhere in texas. I tired not to specifically identify anyone. Also, one vendor reopresenative responded that their recommended selections for HS has about 10% of the total as fiction. Quite a spread and interesting statistics.
