This message is for residents of South Carolina
and Georgia only. Apologies for inconvenience to
others.

The University of South Carolina College of
Library and Information Science will offer the
Specialist in Library and Information Science
degree program to students in Georgia and South
Carolina via distance education beginning in
August, 1999. Applications to the program will
be accepted through the first semester of classes
and should be received by USC no later than
December 1, 1999. Georgia residents will
participate with South Carolina students in
televised classes broadcast over a three-year
period and enhanced with web-based materials and
electronic communication technologies.

The SLIS program consists of 30 semester hours of
coursework planned to meet the individual needs
of experienced library and information
professionals. Those who participate in this
GA/SC cohort will interact and learn from each
other throughout the program, thus establishing a
network of collegial support that will extend far
beyond graduation. There is a special tuition
rate for cohort participants in Georgia, which is
slightly higher that in-state (SC) but much lower
than out-of-state.

Faculty and staff of the USC College of Library
and Information Science will attend the Georgia
COMO Conference October 20-22, 199, on Jekyll
Island. We plan to conduct orientation for new
students in the SLIS program during the
conference, talk with prospective applicants at
the CLIS exhibit booth, and host a reception for
alumni, students, and friends of the College. A
schedule of specific dates and activities will be
announced at a later time. We look forward to
seeing you there.
